I'm guessing the estimate is somehow tied to nursing home populations, and in 2020, no one with other options went into full care nursing facilities.

No, the numbers really don't tie up -- in that they also have single-age data (I generally don't show that, as it doesn't add much to the analysis).

I may show the problem -- you take the age 84 in year 2020, how many died in 2020, and look at the age 85+ bucket... hmmm, maybe that will be my Sunday post. A "nerding out" post, if you will. ;)

There is something extremely weird going on with the population size estimates.
