Sunday Sumo: September 2023 Banzuke Released
plus Trump height/weight (reported) comparison in my graph
The official banzuke (i.e. ranking table) for the September 2023 Grand September Tournament has been released.
That means: time for me to update my graph!
I will note that all that has really changed are the various wrestlers’ rankings. Only one wrestler had an official weight change (and only 2kg… and the measurement may have occurred due to a change from Juryo (2nd division) to Makuuchi (top division)).
A comparison with a recent height/weight combo in the news
To be sure, sometimes we hear of certain height/weight combinations in the news, but I recently heard this reported:
Fox5Atlanta: Trump's height, weight listed on Fulton County Jail records has social media buzzing
Former President Donald Trump officially surrendered to authorities in Fulton County after being indicted on charges of interfering in Georgia's 2020 election.
But that's not the only thing that had social media buzzing Thursday night. Fulton County Jail records state that Trump is listed at 6-feet-3 inches tall and 215 pounds with blonde or strawberry hair.
Others have guessed at various amounts, but I don’t particularly care… I have a height/weight graph, so let’s add this reported amount — 6’3” is about 190.5 centimeters, and 215 pounds is 97.5 kgs.
So, Trump isn’t quite like sumo wrestlers in physique, which … hmm.
Well, it’s difficult to compare.
Trump at the Grand Sumo in 2019
Back in May 2019, Asanoyama won the Grand Sumo Tournament, and at the time he was ranked Maegashira 8. Trump was at the tournament to give a prize — the President’s Cup to the winner of the tournament.
(note the eagle)
I don’t know what size Asanoyama was at the time, but his current measurements are 189 cm (about 1.5 cm shorter) and 168 kgs (370 pounds).
He is really muscular and has a lot of power.
Checking out these photos in comparing the two men — while 215 pounds may not be credible, Trump is definitely lighter than Asanoyama.
An excuse to run a video of a July 2023 match
The question is… is he lighter than Midorifuji? (5’7” and 256 pounds)
(yeah, I’m just amusing myself while waiting for the next tournament.)
