When I hear or read the name Paul Ehrlich, I always think of Norman Borlaug who was a true expert because he developed dwarf wheat through experiments in the field and was a huge contributor to the explosion in grain yields. An amazing person.
Also the very funny character named Ehrlich on Silicon Valley!
I was thinking of mentioning Borlaug, as he was already doing his work (and the reason Ehrlich was wrong as he was nattering before he wrote his & his wife's book), but I edited out a few of my digressions.... (and kept in some others).
But I didn't want to focus so much on that (as so many others had pointed that out this past week) as -why- Ehrlich was featured so much (his location in southern-ish California, the Stanford connection, and his media-ready presence) and then how he undermined his supposed cause.
What fun the experts had being so wrong for so long! The opposite of what he predicted is going to do us in.
