We get all the Alleluias back…
As I write this, my own church is about to livestream Easter Mass (I went to 9am Mass w/ my son & Stu):
Our church opened with this:
Intermission: Opera and Regina Coeli
One of the substacks I subscribe to is Opera Daily:
The Easter Hymn mentioned in the post I linked is a setting from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana.
It’s actually a setting of Regina Coeli (also spelled Caeli), which we also sang at Mass today (in a much simpler setting).
So this gives me an excuse to share some Mozart:
Regina Caeli antiphon — explanation from EWTN:
This is one of four Marian antiphons, with following versicles and prayers, traditionally said or sung after night prayer, immediately before going to sleep. It is said throughout Eastertide. (That is, from Easter Day through Pentecost, the seventh Sunday after Easter.
The Regina caeli is also said in place of the Angelus during Eastertide.
Queen of Heaven
V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
R. For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia.
V. Has risen, as he said, alleluia.
R. Pray for us to God, alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.
Some art from the Met
Closing Hymn
Happy Easter!
Truly he is risen!
