I created a sumo poem in appreciation of my favorite current wrestler:
I submitted it to Sumo Kaboom for their Sexiest Rikishi of 2023 episode.
I was referring to this match, in which Ura waved his fingers after his opponent was already on the way down.
I can’t find a good gif of that, so here is a different match where Ura won:
Sumo Kaboom!
It looks like I can’t embed the Sumo Kaboom episode of the Sexy Rikishi (but seriously, subscribe to their podcast on Apple Podcasts or similar services), so in lieu of that, let me embed the YouTube two-part interview with Murray Johnson, the Australian sumo commentator for NHK:
Part 2:
What cracks me up so much about this interview is that Murray can’t handle simple personal questions, but can go on the deepest dives on anything sumo.
Reminds me of many actuaries I know.
Sumo Valentines

Yes, that’s quite a bit of man flesh.
Sushi Sumo!
My kids have the next week off from school (they call it the ski week, and no, we don’t ski, so don’t ask), and Stu found Sushi Sumo — an anime (adapted from a Japanese picture book for little kids) and it is hilarious to us. It combines aspects of actual sushi rolls as well as sumo traditions.
Sorry, I know the YouTube videos are in Japanese, but you can find English language dubs on TubiTV. Here are two of the sushi sumo wrestlers — salmon and salmon roe:
Enjoy!
No, I have no idea what’s in the bucket.
